Yusef Achmadi

There's a running joke among HIRA Imaji's photographers: nobody quite understands how Yusef builds his lighting until they see the result. He'll set up something that looks wrong on paper, and the frame comes back and the room goes quiet. That's the shorthand for who he is. Trained in visual communications design, Yusef spent years as the assistant everyone wanted on their team before graduating into the photographer's chair himself, technical instincts intact. He'll chase a pose until it locks into place, or spend an unreasonable amount of care on a still life most people would rush past. He's also, quietly, one of the studio's better video hands. Outside the studio he climbs, an obvious cousin to his pull toward industrial photography: both demand patience with hard surfaces. Born in 1992 and now a father of three, he brings that same steadiness home as he does to set. Ask him what photography is for, and he'll tell you it's the human stuff: skin, texture, imperfection, the specific quality of light that makes a person look like themselves. These days Yusef also leads the photographer's assistants and crew, a role he never campaigned for but earned by being the kind of person people genuinely want to work under.
